Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior official stated the incident made him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
